What to do right now
- If the files appeared in the scan, the data is still on the disk. Stop using the drive.
- Scan the same drive again with a free tool that has no recovery size limit.
- Always save the recovered files to a different disk.
How to switch to a free alternative
Stop writing to the drive
While you switch tools, save nothing to the drive that held the lost files. If it is drive C:, keep browsing and downloads to a minimum too.
Prepare the portable version
Download the FileFix Ultimate portable ZIP to a USB stick or another disk and extract it there. Installing onto the drive you are recovering from can overwrite what is left.
Scan the same drive
In deleted file recovery, select the drive and scan. When file system records survive, files return with their original names and folders; when they do not, signature search finds photos, documents and videos by content.
Preview and select
Filter by type, name and size, and preview photos, PDFs and text. Selecting only what you need shortens the save.
Save everything to another disk
With no size limit, tens of gigabytes can be saved in one go. The same volume cannot be chosen as a destination.
How it differs from EaseUS Free
Based on public information in October 2026, EaseUS Free recovers 500 MB, or up to 2 GB after conditions such as sharing, and needs a paid licence beyond that. It is a polished tool with photo and video repair, and the paid edition includes technical support, which can be worth paying for.
FileFix Ultimate has no paid edition at all. Deleted file recovery, signature search, lost partition search, damaged file repair, the unsaved file finder and disk health checks are all free, without a size limit. Version 1.0.4 adds repair of interrupted MP4 and MOV recordings and read-only access to ext4 NAS disks and Mac HFS+ drives.
Will a second scan find the same files?
Both tools read the same disk, so data that has not been overwritten is usually found by both. The way each tool reads file system records and the signatures it knows differ, so the lists will not be identical. EaseUS is a trademark of its owner and is not affiliated with FileFix Ultimate.
When an alternative will not help
- Files deleted long ago from an SSD with TRIM are empty in every tool.
- If you saved new files to the drive after the first scan, some data may be overwritten.
- FileFix Ultimate does not analyse APFS, ReFS or RAID volumes.
How FileFix Ultimate helps
- No recovery size limit, no payment and no account.
- A portable ZIP that runs from a USB stick without installation.
- Each recovered file is tested and labelled honestly.
- Available in 12 languages.
FileFix Ultimate is free, works offline and never writes to the drive you are recovering from. Check the signature before you run it.
Frequently asked questions
What can I do when EaseUS Free hits 2 GB?
Buy a licence, or scan the same drive with a free tool that has no size limit and save from there. Meanwhile, write nothing to the drive.
Is a cracked EaseUS version safe?
No. Besides being illegal, cracked installers often carry malware, and installing anything onto the drive you are recovering from risks overwriting your data.
Will another tool find the files EaseUS showed?
Usually, if they have not been overwritten. Each tool reads the disk differently, so the lists will not match exactly.
Is FileFix Ultimate really free?
Yes. There is no paid edition, no trial period and no recovery limit, and no ads or account.
